Our editorial rules
We use specific source scope
A manufacturer saying one carbide or HSS drill works for a material does not mean every bit in the category does. We recommend tool families and point to sources while preserving product restrictions.
We avoid false precision
Exact cutting speeds, drilling depth, drilling diameter, drill shank fit, anchor capacity and bit cooling requirements can depend on workpiece grade, diameter, machine rigidity and a specific product’s instructions. We will not fabricate universal numbers.
We distinguish “ask” and “stop”
Unknown brick type, unknown glass treatment, an unverified plastic or missing drill interface may require clarification. Suspected hidden utilities, structural modifications, reinforced concrete and tempered glass require a safety stop rather than a generic suggestion.
We do not rank brands
Recommendations are generic categories. Source links are provided to document technical claims, not as claims that any vendor is universally best. This launch includes no advertising or affiliate links.
Revision and scope
Knowledge-base edition 0.1, public static edition 1.0, assembled 17 October 2026. General household reference only; always comply with the tool, material, fastening system and applicable workplace or local safety requirements.
What the tool cannot guarantee
No online selector can inspect hidden wiring, determine glass treatment, assess wall strength, identify a steel’s hardness or certify a structural connection. A good drill bit is not permission to drill an unsafe surface.
